As he leans down to check if he has everything, she kisses him, grasping his head in her hands, as if in the midst of lovemaking. For a brief moment, he relaxes in her hold, letting the euphoria of her lips against his sink into him. He stands upright, suddenly, however, remembering his friend and his promise.

He pauses for a moment, searching in her eyes. He gives her a wry smile. "Perhaps another lifetime," he says.

And then he's gone.
