More gems from Fark submitters...
Jan. 12th, 2005 02:18 pm- Shakespeare’s writings indicate he may have had syphilis, particularly the sonnet entitled, "Why does it hurt when I pee?"
- Man in dog suit OK after being hit by car. Claims no responsibility for man in cat suit stuck in tree across the street
- Playboy Playmate in court on assault charges. Witnesses who saw the fight report her karate was good, but they would have rather seen her box
- Scientists create sperm magnet, Paris Hilton unavailable for comment
And a movie quote meme from
1. Pick one dozen movies that are ones that you have special feelings about.
2. Pick a few lines of dialogue that mean something to you.
3. As people guess the film, strike out that entry.
4. If possible, after the film is guessed, explain why that movie made the list.
And no "sand" quotes this time...

"What do you call a fear of insulin?"
hradzka even gives the answer to the question, "Claus-trophobia," from Reversal of Fortune. It's a movie I've always thought of as a great movie, but never really thought about why. Jeremy Irons is certainly first-rate, long before he decides to chew the respective sets of Dungeons and Dragons or The Time Machine. And Ron Silver goes against what I usually think of his type when he plays the professorish/slightly nebbishy Alan Dershowitz. - "It was such a relief when I saw it crying. It may look different, but it's still true to itself. It's still an emotionally charged towel."
-
"So grant me one request...""...Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen... then to Hell with you!"
ludditerobot gets the exact moment. Conan the Barbarian is a movie I first saw on cable when I was a young'n. It's the best of the 80's sword and sorcery genre, which granted isn't really saying much. In my opinion, the movie has some of Schwarzenegger's best dramatic work in his entire career--that he says so very little doesn't hurt. -
"Katie Holmes is a nice, respectable, wholesome girl...and I'm gonna see her boobs."
batnandu calls this one, having watched the movie three nights ago. This is basically the story of my friendship with him. He's the outgoing, over-the-top one, while I'm the reserved, paranoic, uptight one. With our own stupid wacky adventures, you could probably substitute "James and Nandu go to Arby's" for "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle." We've never, however, gotten high together (I've never gotten high at all, actually), and he's never trimmed his pubes with my nose hair scissors in front of me (and if you've ever used anything of mine near your pubes,
batnandu, I think I'm better off not knowing).
And Neil Patrick Harris has never stolen my car. -
"Why didn't you block my sword?"
chinook_wind correctly answers Hero, which, in my opinion is the best of the three most recent WuXia imports (Crouching Tiger and House of Flying Daggers being the other two). Pretty much the emotional climax of the movie, there's something just damningly tragic about the feud between Flying Snow and Broken Sword. -
"Sing with me now..."
hradzka offers The Little Mermaid, which, at least in my estimation, ushered in the new age of Disney animation. I think it was my first Disney movie I'd seen after I'd gotten into high school. I got a little tired of the movie after hanging out with the Drama department students who kept wanting to sing to the movie when someone would put it on, but after being over 15 years removed from that hideous memory, I can start being nostalgic about the Ashman and Mencken music again. -
"All I'm saying is that, when I'm around you, I find myself showing off, which is the idiot's version of being interesting."
hradzka also gets L.A. Story, a movie replete with quotable material, as well as the first time I'd seen Sarah Jessica Parker post-Girls Just Wanna Have Fun in a sexually alluring role--♥ SanDeE* ♥ Damn you, HTML for not allowing me to represent her name accurately. -
"I am not a gun."
ludditerobot gets The Iron Giant, for which, as I was deciding on what quote to use, I got a little verklempt. The movie Brad Bird made before he went on to make The Incredibles has more heart than most stuff you'll find coming from Hollywood these days, and in my own self-important opinion, is more moving than Buffy's "The Body" (which I've never been a big fan of in the first place...). - "She'll only break your heart, it's a fact. And even though I warn you, even though I guarantee you that the girl will only hurt you terribly, you'll still pursue her."
-
"Constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating."The purveyor of
bluecoat93 answers with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, where I thought about using "I think your name is magical" (which I have wrong on my icon, constructed after a single viewing of the movie). I'm the kind of guy who likes to torture himself with memories and regrets, and this movie is all about that. - "Ruthless trained killers are just a phone call away."
- "I've never been alone with a man before, even with my dress on. With my dress off, it's most unusual."
