Last night, we held a surprise birthday party for P, who's birthday was actually on Sunday. B, her boyfriend, had called me the week before to get me to help out with the invites and such--I sent out a number of e-mails.

Yesterday afternoon, B calls me and tells me that he's worried people won't bring cameras, so if I have one, can I please bring one? Sure, I've got the old, gigantic, currently-sub-standard digital cam that I can bring. When I get to the party, I'm sitting there holding the monstrosity until P shows up, and I snap a few shots.

Later, I notice a number of people have brought cameras, including the exquisitely cute C (B's ex-girlfriend), who has gone the next step to bring a video camera.

When L, [livejournal.com profile] batnandu's girl decides to cut out early, I walk her down because I left something in my car for her, and I decide to leave the digicam in my glove compartment.

So throughout the party, B is being a bit of a micro-manager, directing us here and there, telling all of us that we'll be opening presents after so-and-so gets back, and it hits me right about when he's standing up making a speech after P's opened all of her presents.

He's proposing to her.

And I left the damn camera in the car.

Luckily, there were plenty of other people who weren't idiots left to document the event...

So, anyways, a hearty Congratulations to P and B, the happy couple!

Funny conversation snippet from the night (at least for nerds):
[livejournal.com profile] flattop, [livejournal.com profile] dixiebelle, W, S, and I were talking, and we somehow got onto the topic of Everest, and Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air. The conversation made its way to a discussion about Sherpas and how they're genetically pre-disposed to enduring the high-altitude climates. When wondering about how they would handle living at sea level, John mocked the following phrase:
Why isn't this boiling yet?!?
I must have laughed several minutes about that one.

Yes, I am a science nerd.

Diana Degarmo and Fantasia can both get bent along with Simon and Ryan and Paula. Fact is, it doesn't matter who wins. They're both going to get record deals for top-40-style records which sound like every other Diane Warren-written crapfest.

I'm sure they're all nice people, but this whole American Idol thing is just pushing more lousy music that teenagers will buy in droves, thus perpetuating the stranglehold that the RIAA is trying to maintain over its customers and technological innovation.

Go fuck yourselves, RIAA. Corporate rock music still sucks ($1 to SST Records).

This article, however, is wholly amusing.
